Mysteries Of Corning Ware - Corning Holiday Design P-93-B

I have discovered another Corning Ware mystery.   I don't make it a habit of collecting the "Holiday Season" designs, except when the year is significant such as the year I was born (1969) or the year I graduated from High School (1987) or some such other year of significance in my life.  But when I saw what the model # was, and what the shape was, I had to have it.  For I have never seen this particular piece before, nor have I read any information about this piece in either of the "codecies" (AKA: books) used by we Corning Ware collectors.

Behold... The 2 1/2 quart round (and handled) saucepan

Otherwise known as the mysterious P-93-B.

Due to the nature of the design, I can confidently state that it was produced in 1965.  (Just call me Capt. Obvious?)  but other than that, I can tell nothing.

I have searched the internet and found absolutely nothing.  I am not even sure that it originally came with this lid.  Then again, since the Buffet Servers were released in the previous year...  if Corning was "testing" a new shape, chances are they simply used a lid that was already in production.  (Corning was very good at not "reinventing" the wheel)

I have no idea if this was produced outside of the "Holiday" pattern or not.  So there may or may not be a Wheat or Cornflower piece as well.  Black Trefoil was discontinued in 1965 so I doubt there would be a piece in that particular pattern. (then again, stranger things have happened)

Your guess is as good as mine.  I have looked for P-94, P-92, P-91, P-90 (in case there were other sizes) but all to no avail.

If anyone has any information regarding this particular model and whether it was produced in any other pattern or if it is simply a special piece for the holidays, I would appreciate it.

Where is your Corning Ware??

Deck the Halls With Boughes of Corning Fah La La La La... La La-La-La - Holiday Patterns Through The Years

I have been hard pressed to keep this post under wraps, as it were, until the proper time of the year.  I've been amassing photos from Thrift Stores (and snitching copies of photos from eBay) since March and, quietly sitting on them these last 9 months.  As chance would have it, it was a good thing that I did.  Thanks to friends on the Corningware Facebook group, I was able to get my hands on some photos of pieces I had not seen before.

What is all this about?  Tis the season my friends, tis the season.  Holiday time is upon us!

I know it's before Thanksgiving, and technically the "Christmas season" does not start until AFTER this almost forgotten celebration.  Though to be honest, you wouldn't know it the way the big box stores start shoving Christmas down everyone's throat in September.  Maybe I am just a little over sensitive about is because I LOVE Thanksgiving.  So I get annoyed when it gets brushed over because the retailers have not been able to figure out a way to make copious amounts of money from it...

Well, except the grocery stores, maybe.

They just brush over the holiday centered around thankfulness for what we DO have and move right into the Holiday of  "want" for things we DON'T have.  Hmmmmmm.... I am on the verge of entering into a theosophical dissertation, so it's time to refocus.  :-)

Be that as it may... Both holidays bring families together and usually include some form of feasting.  Which is the common thread at this time of year.. The harvest is over and its time to hunker down for the coming winter.  True, in this modern age, we don't "wait out" winter like we did 200 years ago.  But we can still feast and party like it's 1699.  So when your bringing all those wonderful family holiday traditions out of their storage boxes and dusting them off don't forget to include the Corningware.

Nothing says "festive" quite like the Christmas designs that Corning gave to its employees over the years.

As far as I know, aside from the Furio "Christmas Tree" pattern and the copious pieces made with the 1979 Angel, these were never full sets.  Just 1 piece a year, with a Holiday design.  One year it was a P-315 Loaf Pan, the next year a P-83 Menuette...  A different dated piece every year with a different design. (Though they did recycle a few designs)  Sort of like a Hallmark Christmas Ornament.

This will be a living post.  As I find photos of other pieces from other years, I will add them to this post in the hopes of completing a full record of all the yearly promotional pieces.

Christmas Tree

(Actual Dates of Production unknown, but it began in 1996)

Available in 1 quart (A-1),

1.5 quart (A-1.5),

2 quart (A-2)

and Open Roaster (A-21-B-N)

Though I have not seen them in person, nor found pictures on eBay or etsy...  My assumption is that if they made a 1, 1 1/2 & 2 quart (as shown on the box photo) along with the Open Roaster, then they probably made a 3 quart (A-3) and a 5 quart (A-5).

Where is your Corningware??
~~

Update:  The "Christmas Tree" design was made by Corning to accompany the dinnerware made by La Primula of Italy under the "Furio Home" brand....  This Furio Pattern is listed as FUO5.  I do not know if this same designation was given to the matching Corningware pattern.

Date range of production is still unknown but it began in 1996.
